Maternity: Darci + Peter

June 15th, 2009

He pushes her hair back and tucks it gently behind her ear so he can see her beautiful face. He is mesmerized and can hardly take his eyes off of her.  He holds her near, gently clasping her hand in his as a sign of encouragement and love, but also protectively so he can quickly move her if the swan decides to attack.  Peter has been captivated by love and protection.

I had the very dear pleasure of photographing Darci + Peter’s maternity session, and I have to say that while editing their photos my eyes got a little misty.  I don’t know if was from seeing their love pouring through the photos or from laughing from the memory of the attacking swan, but either way, my eyes were not dry while editing these photos.

We met near a pond on the Morgan Creek Golf Course, where they were married not even a year ago, and we were greeted with a beautiful sunset, playful rabbits, and 2 beautiful swans.  I called it the session of nesting. It was quite obvious what the rabbits were up to, and when we went to the pond and saw the swan swimming quickly over to us with his wings spread out all big like protecting his nest further back in the distance, it just felt right. This was the perfect location and I couldn’t wait to start!

Meet the amazing couple Darci + Peter who could quickly out run any crazy swan:

You can see the swan in this photo.  Anytime we would get near the water’s edge the swan would quickly swim over to us with his wings puffed up trying to make himself look bigger than he actually was.  He doesn’t look like much, but when a swan moves that quickly you’re bound to be ready to run fast, making sure Darci was in front of you!
