Oh Christmas Tree

December 8th, 2009  ||  Personal

Over the weekend Adam and I bundled up and braced ourselves for the cold and made the trek out to Aldergrove to go pick out our annual Christmas tree.  We have started a tradition where we go and wander around some tree lots until we find our perfect tree.  And believe me, it’s not easty.

Me: How about this one?!
Adam: It’s too bushy, we’re not getting a bushy tree.
Me: Umm okay… (continue to look)….

Adam: How about this one?!
Me: It’s too sparse, we’re not getting a sparse tree that looks like a Charlie Brown tree!
Adam: Umm okay….(continue to look)….

Me: How about this one?!
Adam: That’s a good, one, remember that one!
Me: Ummm okay….how we going to remember it since we’re surrounded by trees?!
Adam: Well it’s lined up with that water tank there, so that is how.

5 minutes later we go searching for that tree….

Adam: Is this the tree?!    Staring at a tree that could be it, but we’re not sure.

Eventually we both end up compromising cause we’re cold and just want to go home.  But we always end up with a not too bushy, not to sparse looking tree.

You ever meet those people who just have the warmest and welcoming smiles and you can’t help but just fall in love with them?  This family is it.  I saw them walking towards me with their huge smiles and instantly thought to myself “I love it when people smile…it makes everyone so happy!”.

I was so excited to take their family portraits for Christmas cards because that meant that I had the opportunity to see Natasha again.  The last time I saw her she was a tiny newborn with a full head of hair sticking out her tongue any chance she could get.  This time she was all of those things but bigger and way cuter!

Meet Mirek, Georgina + Natasha, again:

Don’t you just love Natasha has already picked up Georgina’s facial expressions?!

Natasha is so loved!

Can’t wait to spend time with you guys again, it’s always a pleasure!

It’s a sign with the sun in our eyes

I have been spending a lot of time researching, designing, thinking, reading then some rinse, lather, and repeat of those said things the past couple of weeks.  There are some fabulous changes coming to Adley Studio that I’m so excited to tell you about!  I’ve been trying to decide between telling you there are changes coming or just having a big “TA-DA!! You didn’t even know it was coming”, but I decided to tell you.  Cause that way you’ll be wanting more and anticipating what it could all possibly be.

And let me tell you…..IT’S FANTASTIC!

But I can’t tell you what it is yet.

Instead I’ll leave you with some photos from a quick photo walk with my friend Josiah yesterday evening in the freezing cold.

You will always remember your firsts.  Your first kiss, your first love, your first bone break, your first heart break, and your first thrilling roller coaster ride.  In business you always remember your firsts as well.  Your first client, your first new born session with the tiny little fingers and toes, your first google search client, and your first “oh my goodness I’m going to pee my pants I’m so excited about this shot” feeling of delight.

Kate’s newborn session was a first for me because this is where I fell in love with newborn photography.  And her photos from that session are some of my favorite images, ever.  She is the cute babe in the green cloth on my header.

So it was a joy for me when her parents Karen + Aaron brought her back to me.  I felt like I melted into a puddle of goo when she looked at me and cooed.  She is gorgeous and beautiful and I will always love her as one of my firsts.

Every session has a melt down somewhere in there.

Karen + Aaron, it was such a pleasure seeing you two again as well as your growing girl.  She is so precious!

Go ahead and pull me close

Seattle.  It pulls me closer and closer each time I enter it’s city gates.  It warms my heart, whispers sweet nothings in my ear, and wraps it’s cold wet arms around me that I find comfort in.

We always have great company when we go down, we eat like a King and Queen, and I always find myself laughing at the fact that I love Seattle so much considering Vancouver and Seattle are like sisters.  But I think Seattle is like the cooler, more popular, more talent to pull off artsy and athletic at the same time, and manages to stay pretty without putting in much effort.

I told myself I would take more photos this time, but I didn’t.  I just enjoyed the beauty and the awesome company instead, and I have to credit Adam for taking some of these photos. :)
