The joys of my heart!

November 26th, 2009  ||  Personal

November is such an exciting month, it’s where you begin to really feel the change between summer and winter. The brisk cold air, the leaves are officially on the ground, and you’re allowed to say how many days are left until Christmas, without people going all hum-bug on you.

November has brought many joys to my heart and I’d thought I’d let you know!

12×12: I’m very honoured to help coordinate this very cool marathon that is going on December 12. All you need is 35mm film camera (we’re providing the film), $12, and a little imagination. Click on the link and come out, I’d love to see some friendly faces!

Dragonette: oh my…this music just gets my body moving and my head bopping. I love the pop and and the disco of it. Those might not be the true technical words to describe this genre of music, but I don’t mind…just go and have a listen!

Grey’s Anatomy: Adam and I love this show, but we actually never watch it while it’s on TV…we purchase the season box set once the next season has started. We’re on season 5 right now and each and every time I watch an episode I have tears streaming down my face. I try and wipe them away so that Adam doesn’t notice…but I’m pretty he does. This show tugs at my heart strings. We also don’t get a lot done when we watch the DVDs cause we’re always saying, “One more, one more”.

Seattle: We’re off to Seattle this weekend and I’m so excited to see the city where my heart lives. I haven’t been since the summer and I miss it dearly. We’re going to visit some awesome friends of ours, visit a tea shop recommended by Sarah Rhoads, and go see the kid’s line at Anthrologie (no I’m no preggers, I just really want to see the line cause I love their clothes).

Winter light: I’m sure mostly photographers only really notice the difference in light and what is sweet light, blue light, and warm light. But there is something about winter light that makes me want to curl up in a blanket with some hot coco and stare out the window. This morning I saw winter light and got so excited! It reminds me of snow, crisp air, and the sound of frost crunching under your feet.

So, we’re off for the weekend and I’m determined to take some photos, so pray for light rain! Oh, and what are the joys of your heart, I’d love to know!

Vancouver Portrait Photography: Kelly

Two peas in a pod, apple pie and ice cream, hot chocolate and a brisk cold day, romance and the city of Paris…this is what describes the relationship that Kelly + I have.  Buddies for life.  She is the person who will call me anytime of the day just to talk.  Who will text me to ask me why I haven’t put any photos up recently.  Who, besides Adam, has been the one to encourage me the most, support me while I pursue my dreams, who tells me that she told another person to look at my work, who believes my dreams will come true.

I love this girl to pieces.

Sometimes it’s nice to get off the phone and just hang out and chat, so we met up at another random location and took some photos of her and I got a chance to play a little bit with off-camera flash while we were out and about…it’s so much fun to play with!

All the pretty things!

November 22nd, 2009  ||  Uncategorized

This week has been a somewhat frustrating week dealing with server issues, email issues, and monitor issues, pretty much a week of issues actually…but I’m happy to report that I we’re through it!  Everything is transferred over, and all my emails are in my Inbox, and I can see all the pretty colours on my monitor again!

In the midst of all the frustrations, something wonderful arrived on my door step earlier this week that had me feeling like I was basking in warm sunshine…

I received a beautiful 20×24 canvas that a wonderful client had ordered.  It has a beautiful metallic sheen and the image wraps all the way around the frame for a contemporary feel so there is no need to frame the canvas.  I also love how the material of the canvas still comes through the image to give it a fine art look.

I wrapped it in some beautiful wrapping paper and walked it proudly over to my client’s office to show him his latest purchase.  Seeing his reaction to the canvas truly made my day!

If you’re interested in getting a canvas print from a session or one you have coming up, please contact me!

I am in love with this photo; the fall colours and Gavin’s expression - perfect!

I met this beautiful family on a foggy morning and I almost jumped up and down when I saw they were wearing colour coordinated outfits and down vests. They complimented each other perfectly without the ‘matchy - matchy’ look.  They were wonderful and fantastic to photograph! It took a little bit for Gavin to warm up to me but soon enough he was like butter in my hands. He had me running to keep up with him and I had a blast exploring Rocky Point Park with Gavin and his parents!

Meet Gavin, as well as, his wonderful parent’s Monica + Rob:

Wedding of Gabrielle + Oscar

November 13th, 2009  ||  Wedding

The night before this wedding I was lying in bed once again trying to will myself asleep while listening to sirens screaming down my street and drunk bar hoppers yelling at each other. But the moment that my feet touched the ground at Gabi + Oscar’s wedding site, I felt a wave of peace fall over me, and any impressions of the night before could no longer be seen.

Gabi + Oscar choose the amazing location of Rock Water Resort on the Sunshine Coast for their wedding, and I don’t think they could have found a more fabulous location.  It is enriched with everything that the Westcoast encompasses, trees, rocks, water, beautiful scenery, and the wonderful peace of nature.  And who doesn’t want to be surrounded by peace on their wedding day.

Our handsome groom being blessed by his mother and enjoying nature before meeting his radiant bride.

The beautiful and gorgeous Gabrielle!  Aren’t her eyes amazing?!  While she was getting ready I could tell she was getting more and more anxious, and I knew those feelings oh-so well.  That longing where you just want to see the one you love and you can’t wait till that moment comes!

Gabrielle + Oscar choose to do First Look by seeing each other by themselves out in the trees along the boardwalk before the ceremony.  It was such a precious moment.

My dear friend and second shooter for the day Marta got these amazing shots!

Love the photo on the right!

Time to get MARRIED!

We snuck away with Gabi + Oscar to catch the last light of the day.  And to think that it had been POURING the few days before this October wedding!

Then of course it was time to eat, celebrate, and dance the night away!

Gabrielle + Oscar thank you so much for inviting me to document your day! I wish you much love and happiness for many many years to come!
