Wedding Photography: Becca + Boots
**This is a long post. For those of you that don’t have time to read what I have to say…just scroll :)**
As I’ve mentioned before, I second-shot my first wedding a couple of weeks ago with my very good friend Chris. I think saying “I loved it” is an understatement of how I actually felt about capturing someone’s wedding. I had a blast! I found myself smiling all day and didn’t notice how much my feet were actually hurting until I climbed into bed that night. But even then my mind was still racing with how good it felt to be capturing something so memorable.
I’ve coordinated numerous weddings but I’ve never photographed one professionally so my hands were shaking. No, trembling was more like it. I had to keep telling myself “breathe … breathe … if you keep shaking all your images are going to be blurry!”. They cued the music for the ceremony to start and I had no choice but to jump in with both feet, do my best to relax, and remember to breathe.

I think one of the greatest things about shooting with a very close friend is that you’ve built this amazing bond of trust. Chris had so much faith in me that sometimes I was taken aback with how much. “Can you take the guys and I’ll take the girls?!” he asked me. Wide-eyed I nodded my head “okay”. As we walked away, I was quickly racking my brain to figure out what am I going to do with them! We tried a few different poses but I knew we had to get ourselves over to a lifeguards rescue board….I knew it would be a fun shot. Chris then asked me to take the girls while he took the guys. Here are my two favorite poses for our girls and guys.

After we mixed the girls in Chris asked if I had any inspiration for the wedding party photos, this is what I came up with.

Chris then wanted some time with the bride and groom and let the bridal party go and relax. We stayed on the beach a little more and while I was holding the veil in place for Chris’ frontal shot of this, I got this shot from behind. Chris loves this shot….probably because it’s a staple “Chris Loh Photography” shot.

If you’ve been following my blog you know I’ve been using suitcases in some of my sessions. I had my two suitcases in my car and decided to use them. I love these shots.

Before the reception started, Chris was working on a fabulous slide show that would be played while people entered the room and also while we all ate. Since he was working on that I got asked to work on other things.. .like family portraits and a little bit more time with the bride and groom. Nothing like getting yourself totally immersed in wedding photography on your first day hey?! I loved it.

Oh pretty details!

After the meal, I could see that the sun was going down fast. I felt like a 5 year old child asking for permission to have a warm oven-baked cookie - full of excitement and anticipating the great taste of it. When I saw the sun setting I asked Chris if we could take Rebecca + Andrew out to play a little. Yes they were busy greeting all of their guests but deep down I knew these were the shots we needed to get. Thankfully the three of them were up for it. I think Rebecca and Andrew enjoyed the little break as well since it was 10 minutes for them to just be themselves, take a breath, and marvel in their day.

The night ended with dancing and although I got crisper shots then this for their first dance there is something about it that makes me love it.

Their wedding was wonderful and I can’t get over how much fun second shooting is! Rebecca + Andrew thank you for asking me to come and shot your day; it was a blast!
